Once again, we are talking about our 3D printing laboratory. What comes to mind when you hear High Impact PolyStyrene? By conventionally shortening the words, we get the abbreviation HIPS. It is one of the most versatile, economical and affordable plastics in the world, discovered in Berlin in 1839.

HIPS is a lightweight, impact-resistant thermoplastic with good aesthetic properties, similar to ABS, but much lighter. The material is well sanded and polished, painted with acrylic paints, can be repeatedly melted and hardened without loss of mechanical properties.

Although HIPS is most commonly used as a support material, it can nevertheless be used as a standalone 3D printing material. The video shows the process of making a housing from HIPS plastic.
